Stan Wawrinka, the 41-year-old three-time Grand Slam champion, and French veteran Gaël Monfils, a former world No. 6 at 39, have been awarded wild cards into the main draw of Roland Garros, the tournament organizers announced on Monday.
In an official statement, the French Grand Slam, scheduled from May 24 to June 7, confirmed the list of players who have secured direct entry into the main draw and those set to compete in the qualifying rounds.
Wawrinka, currently ranked 125th in the ATP standings, boasts 16 career titles, including the 2014 Australian Open, the 2015 Roland Garros, and the 2016 US Open. The Swiss star is also one of only three players to have defeated Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray at a Grand Slam event. However, in his last four tournaments of 2026, Wawrinka has been eliminated in the first round.
Monfils, ranked 222nd in the world, received a wild card as well. The 13-time ATP titlist (all at lower-tier events) remains the last major representative of the golden French generation that included Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gilles Simon, and Richard Gasquet. At the end of last year, Monfils announced his retirement from professional tennis at the conclusion of this season, making the 2026 edition of Roland Garros likely his final appearance.
